EMA Snore Appliance

What is a snore appliance?

We use the EMA ( Elastic Mandibular Advancement) appliance to correct or reduce snoring in patients. The EMA is a custom made intraoral appliance created for the non-invasive treatment of snoring and Obstructive Sleep Apnea.

How does the snore appliance prevent snoring?

The appliance is designed to advance the lower jaw and open the bite in order to allow for less restricted airflow during sleep. The appliance consists of both an upper and lower mouth guard worn at the same time at night and are attached together with bands. These bands are responsible for advancing the lower jaw forward. There are multiple bands of various lengths. Each patient will decide which bands seem to work the best for them. Dr. Watson and her team will give each patient extensive instructions on how to use the appliance correctly including band selection.

How long is the process of making a snore appliance?

Once it is determined that the patient would benefit from a snore appliance, we need about 30 minutes to complete all necessary impressions and measurements for the lab. Once the lab has everything they need it typically takes 2 weeks for them to fabricate the appliance.

How quickly can I see results?

Once the patient begins using the bands that are most effective for them, results should be seen almost immediately.

How much does it cost?

A typical EMA appliance costs about $1000 with no insurance coverage. However if the patient has been diagnosed with sleep apnea or participated in a sleep study, it is possible that medical insurance will reimburse for the cost of the appliance.

I had the greatest experience last week with Dr. Watson and her staff! I’ve had some very bad experiences with dentists and therefore hadn’t been back in years.
