Tooth Removal & Extractions

Teeth are necessary for maintaining mouth and jawbone structure, but sometimes a tooth extraction is necessary due to tooth decay or dental trauma.

What types of teeth can you extract?

In our office we do all necessary simple extractions. In some instances, certain extractions are more difficult and require the expertise of a specialist. In these situations, we refer our patients to an oral surgeon for the tooth extraction.

Is it critical to have my tooth (teeth) removed?

Some common reasons for a tooth to be extracted are; the tooth has a crack, the tooth has severe decay, the tooth has severe periodontal disease and is loose, and/or the tooth needs to be removed for orthodontic reasons. If a tooth is recommended for extraction, it is extremely important to remove it in a timely manner in order to avoid future problems.

Is it painful?

Tooth extractions are not painful as we are careful to thoroughly numb the area. Following an extraction, you should expect 3-5 days of initial discomfort or soreness as the site begins to heal.

How long does it take to heal?

It will take a total of 2-6 months for the bone to remodel and the extraction site to heal completely.

How much does it cost?

Without dental insurance a tooth extraction will typically cost about $200.

I had the greatest experience last week with Dr. Watson and her staff! I’ve had some very bad experiences with dentists and therefore hadn’t been back in years.
