What are dental sealants?
Dental sealants are a preventive service we offer to our patients in order to protect permanent molars from cavities.
What are the benefits?
The number one place for cavities to start are the pits and grooves of the teeth on the biting surfaces. In order to prevent this from happening, we recommend placing dental sealants in these pits and grooves to prevent bacteria from accessing these areas and forming cavities.
How much do they cost?
Sealants are usually covered by insurance at 100% and require no anesthetic or removal of tooth structure. With no insurance, sealants typically run about $59 per tooth. If sealants are not placed and a cavity were to form on the tooth, the typical costs associated with the necessary filling runs anywhere from $150-$350. Sealants are obviously the more cost effective option.
