How do you check for oral cancer?
In our office we check for oral cancer by examining all of the oral tissues thoroughly. We look at the gums, lips, cheeks, tongue, throat area, floor and roof of the mouth.
What are the signs and symptoms?
Oral cancer can present in a variety of way but we typically look for any areas of red or white patches, a sore that bleeds easily or does not heal, a hard lump or thick spot, or a crusted or rough area. Oral cancer has a wide range of symptoms, some of which are, numbness, pain, tingling, trouble eating or swallowing, trouble moving your tongue, or a change in the way your teeth fit together when you bite down.
How much does a screening cost?
Oral cancer screenings are free to patients of our practice.
